Transport of 4,500-ton Jacket for the Castor project

November 2011

At the end of 2007, Escal UGS assigned the Castor project to UTE Casgas Off-Shore, regarding the construction of a warehousing plant of Gas Natural, taking advantage of the geological morphology existing under the Mediterranean Sea, located at more than 1,750 metres deep and 21 km from the Vinaròs coast (Castellón). Gas Natural’s underwater warehouse was mainly aimed at improving the efficiency and security of the Spanish gas system.

EUROGRUAS was contracted to take care of the engineering, weighing, transport and load out, including the ballasting and mooring of the Puq Jacket (a structure made of reticulated steel over 75 m high and 4,500 tons, supported by the sea bottom and over which the superior part of the platform is assembled).

The 4,500-ton Jacket was moved during the month of November, using 184 SPMT with a maximum technical load of 40 tons per axle.

EUROGRUAS breaks a new record in Spain with this transport.
